Day Sail to Mullion

Sunday 4 June Happy Return will be sailing to Mullion which is about fifteen miles to the south east of Penzance. All are welcome as we still have ample spaces onboard if you wish to join us. High tide is early on Sunday, so we need to muster at (OMG, that's early) 7:45 and get off the mooring by 8:15am, but that also means that we won’t be held up on our return to Penzance by the tide.

Tea and coffee will be provided, but you will need to bring your own packed lunch. The wind is forecast to be from the East with lots of sunshine, so bring some sun cream. It will be a little chilly at the start of the of the day so something warm to get going.

This promises to be an excellent day on the water, and in ideal time to get to know about lugger sailing if you are new to the MBLA. To book your place text or call Skipper Mark or use the email button on the sailing programme page.

  • Google Calendar ICS

Due to the high winds the sailing on Thursday morning and Saturday afternoon have both been cancelled, but just to keep your interest up we are endeavouring to sail on Friday afternoon in a weather window., the winds are coming from the NNW so it will be somewhat calmer in the bay and the afternoon wind are forecast to drop away.

If you would like to sail in this occasion which is the last sail for the year as Happy Return is going into Penzance Wet Dock on Tuesday for the winter layup.

Muster will be at 11:30 Friday on the north quay in Newlyn, please contact skipper Mark if you wish to come along.

November 2022 Sailing

Long nights and short day are with us now for the winter, we have already seen a fair bit of the autumn gales coming through. The Happy Return is still Newlyn but will be on the move back to Penzance as soon as they can find room for us.

Meanwhile the tides next week are somewhat in our favour for some sailing in the bay. So, if the weather is permitting, we will initially look to sail on Wednesday morning 2nd November, mustering on the north quay in Newlyn Harbour at 09:00, departing at 09:30. If the weather gods are with us, we will also endeavour to sail on Thursday 3rd November mustering at 10:00.

We make no promises on the weather but if you are free and wish to sail then text or call Mark to book your place. If the weather is unfavourable, then we will slip the sailing day to a more appropriate day.

If we have the number and have not moved back to Penzance, then we will try for a sail on Saturday afternoon the 5th November. Once again forward your names to me if you wish to be included on this sail.

Just remember that it is down to the weather which is unpredictable at best this time of year.

Mark Mitchell

Saturday Sail - places available and Note New Time

There are still places available for the morning sail this Saturday 21st September.

Please note this is on the Sailing Program as a Day Sail, but due to tides and darker evenings it would mean not getting back onto the North Arm until about 7.00 PM which would make it a very long day.

The weather forecast is reasonable, dry, sunny intervals with light to moderate S/SE winds. So I now propose to muster at 09:00 AM and depart ASAP and back on dry land by approx 12:30 mid day in time for a beer.

I already have some bookings made several weeks ago, if you have made such a booking with me, can you please re-confirm your availability.

To book please contact me, Skipper Dave by phone or use the email button.

Remember not many sailing days remaining for this season, so please come along and enjoy what is left of what has been a very good season in general. Still some time if you want to hone or learn a new skill.

See you on board,

Dave.
