Virtual Plantpot

As you know one of our members is holding a table top sale on this Saturday 13th July to raise much needed funds for your Association.

It has just come to my attention that there have been some donations made to MBLA via the new Facebook DONATE button but as yet not transferred to MBLA's a/c.

The reason for this is Facebook require we reach a minimum amount of donations of £100.00 before they transfer to our a/c. (I must give our Facebook manager much credit for his perseverance and hard work setting up the DONATE button process on Facebook).

So, how about helping Liz with her Cake & Plant stall by visiting our Facebook site (Mounts Bay Lugger Association), if you have a Facebook a/c, just search for Mounts Bay Lugger Association and donate whatever you can afford to buy a virtual cake or plant?

I have just donated £10.00 to buy a virtual plant. Gardening is not my favourite hobby so this plant should be easy to water and feed and look after itself. Are you in the same boat as me?

We need to get the funds held by Facebook over £100:00 (One Hundred Pounds).

Many Thanks,

Dave.

Baking for Boating - Saturday 13 July

Elizabeth Wood is organizing a cake and plant stall which is going to be outside the Commercial in St. Just this Saturday (13 July).

All funds raised are in support of the MBLA. Liz would appreciate donations of cakes, also plants.

You may either meet Liz in Lidl's car park Penzance at 4pm on Friday 12th July or phone her on 01736 361221 to arrange collection or delivery of items.

Alternatively they could be delivered direct to the stall after 9am Saturday 13th.

If you can spare the time then I am sure that Liz would appreciate some help and support in this endeavour.

So lets all get baking for boating.

Many Thanks

A bit of history -

HAPPY RETURN (FE 5) was built at Kitto’s Yard, Porthleven, as a Mounts Bay pilchard driver for John Warman Saunders of Folkestone to replace his previous Cornish lugger GOOD INTENT which was lost in a gale off Folkestone in 1904. All three crew (the owner and his two sons John and Edward) were saved and the name of the new lugger celebrated that fact.

Weekend Sail - May Bank Holiday

I great weekend voyage aboard Happy Return this bank holiday.

Departing Penzance on Friday and sailing around the lizard to anchor up at Cadgwith for a visit to the Cadgwith Cove inn and a session with the Cadgwith singers.

Saturday saw us making for Helford and finding a river anchorage for the night and a call in at the Ferry Boat Inn.

We departed on Sunday and made for a refuel at Falmouth then on to the beautiful St Mawes where we walked around the village and refuelled ourselves at the Victory Inn.

Monday saw us depart for Penzance and home with a very sunny voyage but sadly little wind.

Crew members Skipper John Vanderhoff, George Whittaker, Peter May and James Walker.

Fundraising Opportunity

MBLA: Fundraising Opportunity...

Hi Everyone,

Do you do On-Line shopping? Sites like Amazon, Booking.com, Tesco and many more. Would you, your family & friends like to raise some funds for your chosen charity in our case: Mounts Bay Lugger Association at no cost to yourself?

1) You can do this via "Give As You Live" (GAYL) web site and there are a number of opportunities for you. First you need to create your own Give As You Live account:

Go to: https://www.giveasyoulive.com/login?rurl=%2Fdashboard "Don't Have An account" "Sign Up For Free" and create your own user ID & password.

Next you will be asked to choose your charity. To support Mounts Bay Lugger Association in the "Choose Charity" box type mounts bay and click on search. From the list of options choose Mounts Bay Lugger Association (The one with the photo of Happy Return), click on the blue button - Support Us.

Scroll through the list of On-Line store and put into your favourites if you want.

For MBLA to receive a donation from your on-line shopping, first you need to log into your GAYL account, select the store you want to shop, i.e. Amazon, click on the green button Shop & Raise. You will now be taken to your site (Amazon) where you can log in and shop and pay as normal. When finished you can return to GAYL and get a message "We've tracked your visit to ... (Amazon)"

If you have made a purchase, you will see how much you have raised within 24 hours.

2) You can also purchase In-Store pre-payment cards. E.g. Tesco. Buy a pre-payment card, choose any amount you want and shop in store and pay for goods/groceries etc. with this card. The card may be topped up if you wish. Log in to GAYL web site, click on the Shop In Store button & chose your card.

3) Give a DONATION? For those members who already gave MBLA a donation with their membership renewal or other reasons many thanks and much appreciated. But now anybody who visit our web site: www.happyreturn.org can go to the footer of any page and click on the GAYL logo and it will take you to their site, scroll down to the Green Donate button and follow the instructions and links.

Various sites donates various amounts to charities and all depends on how much you buy. Usually the sums are small, but many, many small amounts can add up to a large amount. We now need to encourage as many members or friends of members to join in.

I hope this makes sense, if you have any problems, please contact me and I will do my best to help you. I have tried it and it does work through my own account and the MBLA web site to give a donation.

All the best,

Dave.
