Preserving and enjoying a piece of cornish sailing HERITAGE

The MBLA is a charity that has lovingly restored an old Cornish lugger the 'Happy Return' back to its former glory. The MBLA has a regular sailing timetable from March through to October where members of all levels of sailing experience can enjoy the pleasure of sailing in South West England and beyond.

"Happy Return, FE05, built by Kitto in 1905 and at present enthusiastically sailed from Penzance by the Mount's Bay Lugger Association, a shining example of a well run heritage boat organisation."

"Fishing Boats" Magazine, Spring 2016: 'Porthleven Built 1850-1976' by John McWilliams

WHAT IS A LUGGER?

HAPPY RETURN is a lugger, but more specifically, a Mount's Bay lugger. At one time there were tens of thousands of luggers up and down the country. They are the "red sails in the sunset".
